My hole-in-one, down under.

My first Hole-In-One was in Sydney, Australia at Cammeray Golf Club. Hole 9 is 142 yard with an elevated tee dropping 30 feet to the green. Any shot landing in the front third of the green would roll back and off 50 ft. green-side bunkers on either side, a 20 foot fall away to the left and a run off into thick rough at the back completed the protection.

Cammeray Golf Club Hole 9 - Sydney Australia

On that windless day, the pin was located in the back third of the green in the shade. The contact from the 9 iron stroke sounded and felt great, and the ball sailed high and landed in the center of the green and rolled up into the shade. A combination of the shade and the early morning sun in our eyes meant the group couldn't tell where it had stopped.

As I approached the green there was no ball near the flag or on the green, so I walked around the back to check the rough - it had been recently trimmed and was clearly not there. Maybe a ricochet into the left bunker - no, nothing there. Maybe the right bunker. As I passed the flag crossing the green, I glanced into the cup and staring up at me was the marker logo on my ball.

Probably not as much fun as seeing it go in from the tee, but still great joy.
